OUR CENTURY OLD HOME

In my life I never knew I would even want an old home. When I would dream about what kind of house I would buy in the future, a new modern build would have definitely been my top choice. We kind of did get the best of both worlds though when it came to our current and first home. Welcome to our 120+ year old colonial in western Pennsylvania! Our home is just 1700 square feet, has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and an unfinished basement. Originally built in 1900, it was bought and gutted to be flipped to sell and we purchased the home in 2019. I fell in love with it’s new, modern, clean slate. An old house that felt brand new. Everything even down to the plumbing had been replaced and it made us feel safe to know that we wouldn’t need to put much into it. Unless you go down into the basement or notice the original wood floors upstairs, you would probably have no idea that the house is as old as it is and that’s what I originally loved about it.

Now after having lived in the home for a few years, my husband and I came to realize how much we would have loved some character. I’m constantly wondering what the rooms used to look like. It has been our journey to add bits of character here and there and to make the home really feel lived in and loved while also showcasing our personal style. Shortly after we moved in we found out we were pregnant and then became pregnant again when our daughter was just 8 months old so we didn’t do too much with the house for awhile as we were busy having and raising two babies. Once our son was over a year old, we felt more ready to work on the home and have done a few things like give the basement a little makeover for my husband’s “man cave”, add some board and batten to some of the walls as well as install an electric fireplace, built in, just some minor cosmetic updates. My goal this year has been to really focus on our personal home style and work room by room, whether it needs a full renovation or just some refreshing. I do not foresee us leaving for quite some time so it has been fun dreaming up what each space could look like and how it could work for our family. I hope you will follow along with us here on my blog or social media to see the transformations. For now, here’s a little tour.
